Campton and Estabrook CX

Sat. Kevin and I headed out to St. Charles for the Campton CX race.  After watching his race where there was a ton of guys going down in frosty corners(Kevin crashed on both his first and second lap in the same corner) and the next race not being any better, I opted for the long sleeve and knee warmers so I would have a layer of protection if I went down. It was a beautiful day but the temps allowed for what I had on but probably would have been fine in shortsleeve and shorts.

After waiting for June's boyfriend to change her rear wheel we got underway.  I had a good start and was second with June right behind me.  We rode the first lap trading places and when we came into the last barrier she had some troubles with her rear wheel and had to change it out.(never mess with your bike when you are on the line)  From there on I stayed in second for the rest of the race.  Towards the last 3 laps June was picking off people and I could see that she was gaining time on me so I had to really ride everything fast and clean.  The last lap she had gotten within 15 seconds and I gave it my all and was able to squeak out a second place finish with June just about 10 seconds in third.

Sunday we went up to WI to Estabrook Park.  I really enjoyed the layout of the course.  Unlike Campton, there were areas to really put down power.  While listening to the Ref, I told Abby that I didn't feel like I was getting ready to race.  It was a really weird feeling but I felt like I was just hanging out.  The next thing I knew we were off.  We stayed together for the first lap and by the second lap I ended up in a group with Abby, Patty, and Anna.  In front of us was the lead group with Debbie, Devon, and FG Sam with Kristin sitting in no-mans-land chasing them.  We stayed together the entire time and not knowing how to sprint I got eighth.  It was a fun race that seemed to go by very fast even though it was 55 minutes. ~holly
